Although I have a Nook, I read paperbacks when I settle in
for my soaks. I’ve been waiting for e-reader manufacturers to come out with a
waterproof reader, but recently, a friend told me she puts her Kindle into a
Ziploc freezer bag when she baths. I might follow her example. Have you tried
it? How did it turn out?
Apparently, my friend and I aren’t alone in this bath time
reading addiction. I just found out there’s a National Read in the Tub day.
It’s this Saturday, February 9th I’m already day dreaming about my
afternoon and the story I’ll plunge into.
Consider joining the celebration this Saturday, splash in your
tub with a book from your to-read pile. Or if you’re looking for something new
to try, here are 13 suggestions I’ve recently enjoyed.

I read a lot but I must admit I don't in the bath. Great list.
ReplyDeleteAnthony,
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
Colleen,
ReplyDeleteYep, the wet thing is definitely a drawback. ;) I liked Proof of Heaven, too.
I had to give up on reading in the tub. Dropped the book in the water too many times.
ReplyDeleteAlice,
DeleteYeah, sometimes I drop a book too. I've had to stop reading ones I borrow from the library. Grin.
Drat! I don't own a bathtub! We just have a shower stall. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteKimberly,
DeleteI don't have a plan for reading in the shower, but if I come up with one, I'll let you know.
I don't like to read in the tub, but read, yes. At my other blog I'm listing what I read but there isn't likely any overlap. I do largely poetry and you do largely novels.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out your other blog. I'm always looking for good reads.
DeleteI used to love to read in the tub in our old place, but this one is ridiculously small and annoying. I've got The Replacement on my TBR list. I really need to get to that one!
ReplyDeleteI liked The Replacement. I liked the unique twist to the changing stories.
DeleteI've only heard of a couple of those titles/authors. I agree with you on the drawback of ebooks when it comes to long soaks. And, as inviting as a bubble bath and book sound, I need to find a better-fitting plug for my tub. The one that came with the new apartment doesn't seal well. Thanks for stopping by this morning!
ReplyDeleteHeather,
DeleteOh, I had one of those plugs for a while. My tub reading suffered. Then we moved. My current tub is great for both reading and soaking.
Thanks for stopping and leaving a comment. I wish you lots of good reads.
I used to like reading in the tub when I was a teenager. Somehow I just have no time for long, lingering soaks these days - never enough hours in the day. Or night. I had no idea there was a National Read in the Tub day. That's pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteRhiann,
DeleteYep, there's always stuff to do, especially for writers. That's why your visit is doubly appreciated and yeah, I think a National Read in the Tub day is amusing, too.
I'm afraid I don't read in the tub, but I read everywhere else. Nothing like my eyeballs fixed on a page!
ReplyDeleteCountryDew,
DeleteI know you're reader and a writer. I appreciate that about you. Thanks for coming by.
One of my favorite guilty pleasures! (Only guilty because I stick my husband with our toddler for about 2 hours). SO doing National Read In The Tub day!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a plan. Enjoy.
I love this idea! In my old apartment I had a vintage clawfoot tub and I read in there. Had a metal device that went across the tub to hold my book and my soap. Haven't indulged since I moved to my new place. You make me want to revisit tub reading!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. I'd love a vintage clawfoot tub. I wish you lots fun with your current book and tub.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna check out nos. 3 and 10 :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Hazel,
DeleteI bet you'll like them. :)
If someone likes to do it - there will be national day to really celebrate it. I must admit, a few candles, some bubble bath and I'll take a good book until the water turns cold.
ReplyDeleteI have taken my e-reader into the tub but was so nervous I'd drop it in I couldn't really relax. The only reason I even tried was the book was so good!
Raewyn,
DeleteYou're braver than I am. I'm still not sure I can enjoy my e-books around water.
Hilarious! :) I think you may have just started a new business — a waterproof E-reader case!
ReplyDeleteJohn
Oh, that would be great, John! Let me know when you have a prototype--I'll try it out.
DeleteI so miss having a big tub to soak in. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Mia! I just wish my kids would leave me alone long enough to take a bath and read a good book. LOL. I guess I could always cover one in plastic and read it in the shower. *wink* Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow! I participated in National Read in the Tub day without even knowing it! My snack of choice is a G&T. This week's paperback was Throne of Glass. Thanks for joining us on Thursday's Children!
ReplyDeleteI've never really been a fan of tubs. Showers are more my thing.
ReplyDeleteCute. Ziplock bag, huh? I'd better stick with the paperbacks for tub soaking. But let me now how it works for you. And about your new business. (as John says, above) Think you got yourself a great idea!
